Frank Rich Again Proves there is No Liberal Media

I always fight with my father about whether the media has a liberal bias. It does not. Years ago Dan Rather asked George HW Bush some tough questions about Iran-Contra. The right wing threw a tantrum and accused Rather of reporting with a liberal bias. Apparently liberal bias equals seeking the truth.

If you are still under the misconception that the media is liberal (its not) read Frank Rich's column.

Here's an excerpt.

Mrs. Bush's act was a harmless piece of burlesque, but it paid political dividends, upstaging the ho-hum presidential news conference of two days earlier in which few of the same reporters successfully challenged administration spin on Social Security and other matters. (One notable exception: David Gregory of NBC News, whose sharply focused follow-ups pushed Mr. Bush off script and got him to disown some of the faith-based demagoguery of the Family Research Council.)

Watching the Washington press not only swoon en masse for Mrs. Bush's show but also sponsor and promote it inevitably recalls its unwitting collaboration in other, far more consequential Bush pageants. From the White House's faux "town hall meetings" to the hiring of Armstrong Williams to shill for its policies in journalistic forums, this administration has been a master of erecting propagandistic virtual realities that the news media have often been either tardy or ineffectual at unmasking.

And here he pays homage to the only anchor I currently trust..

Make no mistake about it: the ratings rise of Jon Stewart's fake news has been in direct relation to the show's prowess at blowing the whistle on propaganda when the legitimate press fails to do so. The correspondents' dinner, itself a "Daily Show" target last week, could not have been a more graphic illustration of why, at a time when trust in real news is plummeting, there's a bull market for fake news that can really be trusted to know what is fake.

There's a reason why the Daily Show keeps winning Emmys for great investigative journalism.

Reg Keys runs for PM against Blair in his home town

Mr. Keys' son died in Iraq. Here is a quote from his campaign website:

If this war was justified then I would not be here today. If the war had been just I would have been grieving and not campaigning. If weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq, then I would not have come to Sedgefield, to the Prime Minister's stronghold, to challenge him on its legality. Link

Tony Blair may have broken a record by winning a third term, but he broke another record by loosing 100 seats in Parliament to the Liberal Democrats. They ran on an anti-war platform, something our own Democratic party was afraid to do. England's economy is booming so this vote is punishment for Blair's involvement in what many in England openly call an illegal war. If only we had the courage to do that here.

I do have to give Tony Blair some credit though. He has to face an angry Parliament on a regular basis. In addition, he does REAL town hall meetings in which the questions aren't prefaced by "Gee Mr. Blair, you are the best Prime Minister we have ever had!!" One woman called him a liar to his face. He has also admitted his mistakes in the lead up to the war. Reg Keys having run against Blair and lost gave a concession speech while on stage with Blair. In America we have to coddle our Big Tough President. He gets fake town hall meetings where the audience must sign a loyalty oath. His press conferences are also only made up of reporters who promise to lob soft ball questions at him. He has never admitted any of his countless mistakes

We have set a dangerous precedent by not making our leaders pay for their decision to start an illegal war. Future politicians, democrat and republican, now know they can make huge mistakes and not pay for it politically.

...according to Pastor Chan Chandler in at East Waynesville Baptist Church in NC. He just ex-communicated 9 parishioners who refused to come to the alter and repent for having voted for John Kerry. They also had to promise to support George W. Bush from now on. 40 other members left the church in an act of solidarity--even some who voted for Bush (gasp). The rest of the congregation gave the "sinners" a very Christian send off (sarcasm) by standing up and applauding as the Democrats were told to leave.

High School Senior Out-Reporting the Corporate Media

A High School senior went undercover to see how far military recruiters will go. He secretly taped several conversations in which the recruiters said his having a drug problem and having no HS diploma could be cured. They bought him a detox kit and offered to forge his diploma.

In addition, military recruiters are touring the country with a dog and pony show to enlist high school students. They visited one school within days of a funeral for a fallen soldier and classmate of the students. The recruiters told them if they wanted to get revenge for their friend, they should enlist. I understand the recruiters are under a lot of pressure and I don't only blame them. I blame the military and the president for stretching the military much too thin.
